Hazel Dress

Happy Canada Day!

Actually I am in the middle of other sewing (Cambrie dress, baby quilt and laptop bag), but I suddenly decided that I needed a red and white dress for a Canada Day BBQ.

So on Thursday lunchtime I went off to my local Fabricland and found some red and white striped fabric. They say copying is the sincerest form of flattery and I wanted a dress like the picture on the pattern!

When I got home, I downloaded the  digital Hazel pattern from the Colette patterns website while I washed and dried the fabric. I have been following the Colette Pattern Sew Along on Sarah's Rhinestones and Telephones blog, and although I fell way behind in the previous Sew Along, I am on schedule with this one!!!

By the time I went to bed on Thursday I had pieced together the pattern and cut out the fabric. On Friday evening before I settled down to watch a movie I had sewn most of the dress together and then finished the facing and hem on Saturday morning.

I found it a very easy dress to sew. I am not 100% sure the pattern is for me though, maybe it is just because it is shorter than I normally wear, but on a hot day like today, less is better!

I will wear this later today to a casual BBQ and see how I feel in it. For $4/m I will say that this is my wearable muslin!

  4. Happy Canada Day! I think it's really cute on you! If it feel too short though, a band of eyelet lace or something at the bottom would lengthen it a bit... but it's a perfect sundress as is! :)

    1. Hi Gillian. Hope you had a great Canada day too. Perfect weather. I like the idea of a band of something around the bottom, change it a bit!

  7. Nice! Bonus points for the dress waist being on your actual waist (seen a couple of makes where that was off and I had to run away because even online, the urge to lift it up and pin it is massive! XD). Also your deck/backyard look so nice made me feel a little nostalgic although I don't know for what....
