Driven to Quilt

I have been bitten by the quilting bug. I have decided to sew an I Spy Quilt for my cousin’s little girl. I’ll be seeing her in August when we go to England on holiday. But I am sure when I get started I am going to want to make for the other little ones in the family as well!

Basically an I Spy quilt consists of many different squares of fabric with items easily identifiable by a child. So you can play the childhood game, I Spy with them. Now this means buying an awful lot of fabric so that you don’t have repeats.  I looked around for swaps, unfortunately I found a few but they didn’t want to include anyone outside of the US. Eventually  I did find one and I have sent off my three packages of fabric and in a few weeks should receive 30 different fabrics back.

Normally, if I (or someone else) can't wear it, I don't sew it, however over the years I have done some quilting. When the boys were little I made a dinosaur quilt and a zoo quilt using the paper piecing method. These are from the book "Patchwork Quilts for Children", by Margaret Rolfe.  I also took all my old fabric scraps and make a little quilt.

I have also turned a lot of my old running t-shirts into a warm and snuggly quilt. I made one for my younger son as well. These all float around the TV room and the basement for snuggling under while watching TV.

For my older son I have the squares cut out ready to go. My husband has also sorted out his old cycling t-shirts for me to make into a quilt!
